On September 4, 2019, Shorsh Ismael (KRG Minister of Peshmerga) met with Willem Cosijn (Netherland’s Consul General in Erbil) and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the Ministry’s reform process.
During the meeting, in which Sarbast Lazgin (Deputy Minister of Peshmerga) and a number of high officials from the MOPE were present, the Minister of Peshmerga remarked at the vital and influential nature of this agreement as well as acknowledging the role of the Dutch consultancy and armed forces in the training of the Peshmerga.
Before signing the MoU, the Dutch Consul General shared the content of the MoU where their civil and military consultants will join those of the U.S., U.K. and Germany in helping implement the reform process, saying, “Through this, we hope to overcome any of the obstacles and reach our objective more efficiently.”
Lastly, both sides agreed that their partnership should be increased towards their joint objective — a true reform within the Ministry of Peshmerga.
